Different Strokes

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do. ~Epictetus

The weather may be accommodating, but you still find yourself freezing. Freezing at the thought of where you are and where you’d want to be. Your peers are on the road to self actualization, success stories have really clouded your mind. You simply don’t want to look back on time and wonder why you danced to the beat of a different drummer.

Vice City

Say what you’d like to say about the Weka Condom Mpangoni advert – and you might as well because everyone else has – but if you thought the Mututho laws on alcohol reduced the quantities or the number of people imbibing, you are probably also wrong on this one.

Before it’s misconstrued, I’m not advocating for infidelity if you can keep it safe, far from it. Infidelity is wrong, promiscuity should never be entertained. An absent spouse shouldn’t give anyone a right to sleep with another. That’s my school of thought, that’s my belief. That’s not the fact.

Snakes and Ladders

Ambition is the immoderate desire for power. ~Baruch Spinoza

To argue that a quest for power by any means necessary is not reflective of a spirit of servanthood, is wrong and must be first dealt with privately. True, the sole purpose of power is in service, but let’s be honest, how many times have we sought higher positions in order to earn that respect, be in a position of control, a position of influence?

Mummy, you’re so Sweet

Money is a scarce commodity. That’s what they teach in Economics classes. It’s a scarcity that creates a high demand and desire for the shilling in order for one to live a beautiful life. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity ~ Seneca

Ok. So it never happened, the Big Bang theory in your life that you had expected. Now you are thinking; should you hammer the living daylights out of yourself for thinking you were destined to be a millionaire-designate, that you’d have been living large? What will happen to all that big, now seemingly cheap, talk and your truckload full of ego?

Mentorttitude

Do not wait for leaders; do it alone, person to person. ~ Mother Teresa

You cannot have it both ways. You cannot claim to be the best in your department, in your division then go crazy when a promotion is given to someone else. You cannot feel elated that your bosses see you as the only person capable of undertaking anything in your section, then go ballistics when another person is hired for a senior management position that you feel most qualified for.

The Ultimate Feather

What is the ultimate feather on your cap? The one, once you attain, will signify that your life will not have been in vain, that you will have, in Paul’s words, ‘fought a good fight’?

Might it be graduating top of your class in the University, or merely graduating? Might it be owning and running your own establishment of whatever size or heading the one you are employed at? Marriage, perhaps? Having children? And seeing them excel and become their own person?
